This question goes far beyond the emotions involved in liking someone, the sparks and the butterflies, always thinking of them and never getting enough of them type vibes. This focuses on your discernment, peace and reality of the relationship. 

Because we can’t see into the future, we have to have some sort of guidance from someone who can, and that’s the Holy Spirit. Someone who may be your best for today, may not continue on a growth path that will still allow them to be your best for tomorrow, or even years down the line. 

So, we have to be led by the Holy Spirit when moving forward with relationships and one way to do that, is to follow peace. Peace is a knowing even when you essentially never know.

Then, we have to check the reality of the relationship. Sometimes we can find ourselves fantasizing on who we believe the person we’re dating is, without acknowledging if the reality corresponds with our fantasies. 

Other times we can be so caught up in having our intimate desires fulfilled that it stops being about the person we’re dating, and it only becomes about us. Relationships aren’t a partnership for both partners to essentially focus on themselves, relationships are to consider the person you’re with. To help them, love them and serve them. Relationships are the worst way to go about seeking to be served, because it’s all about being of service. Which in my opinion, makes it challenging. 

So, how do you know for sure, especially if you’ve had your fair share of experiences where some may have seemed perfect for you, yet it still didn’t work out?

The only way to know for sure, is for the Lord to let you know. If we leave the decision in our hands, we can mistake our soulmate for the person who we just can’t get enough of, and that doesn’t always equate to God’s will for our lives.

So, all in all, in order to know for sure, we have to let God lead us. He knows how to let us know whether someone was sent to us from him or not. 

When the Lord sends you someone, you won’t have to send them back. So if you’re contemplating whether or not you’ve met your soulmate, allow God to reveal to you the answer you’re seeking.
